December Message from the Chair

Welcome members to the December 2018 issue of the section newsletter! This column is my final one as your Chair, as my term ends December 31. It has been my extreme pleasure and an honor to serve as your leader for these past 12 months. With the help our of member base, and my devoted Section Leadership Committee, we made great strides in growth and development of our little corner of the ASQ world.
This past year has led us to offer 8 monthly programs, from a wide array of speakers and subjects. Whether you attended live in person, or joined us via webinar, thank you for taking part in the learning opportunities provided by the program committee, lead by Cassie Jodon. Cassie also took on the task of leading our Conference Committee, to continue the tradition of the spring conferences held in our region. This past June's conference provided educational and networking opportunities to nearly 100 individuals, members and non members alike.
To support the overall organization's initiatives in Social Responsibility, we continued with the REDD UP campaigns, led by Robin Dudash. Once a month from April to October, we would clean up our little corner of the city we represent. A dedicated group would meet one Saturday a month, from Grant Street to Stanwix Street and "de trash" the area.
Throughout the year, we have offered a variety of educational courses within the Body of Knowledge of ASQ Certifications as well as supplemental courses such as Design of Experiments, Internal Audits, and Creating Improvements. I have seen many of our courses help our members succeed in their current jobs, obtain new jobs, or become more marketable in their chosen field.
With the help of the outstanding Section Leadership Committee. our section  is well positioned to move forward into 2019 as the organization as a whole goes through the transformation towards a renewed ASQ. It definitely takes a village to keep this section running.
This term is my third time in the chair seat, and every time has brought its own unique challenges and rewards. Thank you to ALL of those who have elected me, supported me throughout this term, and helped YOUR section succeed. I ask all of you to provide the same support to incoming Chair Greg Stuver, returning Treasurer Richard Rothey, as well as all of the 2019 Section Leadership Committee.
On behalf of the entire Section Leadership Committee of ASQ Pittsburgh Section, we wish you all the warmest of holiday seasons, the happiest of new years, and the most prosperous 2019.
